Building a Stronger Grid: GRICUA’s Commitment to Resiliency
When it comes to powering our Community, reliability isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. That’s why GRICUA is doubling down on resiliency.
As part of our long-term plan to strengthen the electric grid and protect our customers from power disruptions, GRICUA has launched a series of proactive infrastructure upgrades designed to withstand Arizona’s harshest weather, especially the notorious monsoon season.
Transmission System Hardening: What It Means for You
Our most recent effort, the Transmission System Hardening Project, is all about ensuring the durability and stability of GRICUA’s power delivery system. Through careful analysis by our engineering team, we identified areas most vulnerable to monsoon storm damage. The solution? Strategic reinforcement.
Every third or fourth transmission pole along key routes is being replaced with new, wind-resistant poles capable of withstanding gusts up to 100 miles per hour. This design reduces the risk of cascading outages—where one downed pole triggers a domino effect—keeping your lights on even when the winds pick up. Work has already been completed on the transmission line to the Santan Substation, and crews are now focused on the stretch along Casa Blanca Road. If you’re traveling in that area, we ask that you drive carefully and stay alert around active crews.
Why Resiliency Matters
Resiliency isn’t just about bouncing back—it’s about staying strong in the face of challenges. By investing in our infrastructure today, we’re protecting our community from extended outages tomorrow. Fewer disruptions. Faster recovery. Greater peace of mind.
This is one of many ongoing projects designed to make GRICUA’s service stronger, smarter, and more responsive to the needs of our customers.
